Leadership

Rev. Joseph B. Tyson, Pastor

Becoming an acceptable tool for the Master and serving mankind is the expressed desire of Rev. Joseph B. Tyson, Pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Florida. His leadership of St. John began in 1983 and he has been instrumental in helping the church realize many accomplishments for the cause of Christ, including:

• Establishment of the St. John Human Resource Development Corporation – a community outreach initiative to improve Pleasant City.

• Church Building and Remodeling Program.

• Pleasant City Summer Youth Program.

• Home Buyers Club for first-time homeowners.

These efforts served as the beginning of the revitalization and transformation of the Pleasant City community. His personal accomplishments include serving as a former pastor of New Macedonia Baptist Church, Riviera Beach Florida, and owner/manager of Tyson’s Jewel Pouch, the first minority-owned exclusive jewelry store off Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue and Tyson’s Tiny Tots, Inc.

He was born and educated in Switzerland, South Carolina as one of nine (9) children to the Late Benjamin and Rachel Tyson. As a young man he met and married the Late Malissa Nelson Tyson with whom he shared the birth, love and nurturing of nine (9) children. He is also the grandfather of eight (8) grandchildren.

Pastor Tyson selflessly resigned from secular employment, closed his exclusive jewelry shop, and committed to giving full allegiance to God’s mandate for his life and ministry. Through hard trials, including the loss of three (3) children and his wife, he still often says that his greatest assets are God, two wonderful mates, and his children. Today, he continually perpetuates the truth of a loving relationship with the triune God. On May 15, 2010, God blessed his union with Dorothy L. Glover and daughter Raven Glover. It pays to serve Jesus!
